Sumner Stone Sumner Stone studied both mathematics and calligraphy in college. The former was to be his career, the latter his avocation. The roles switched. After college Stone taught mathematics, but soon his love of letters and exceptional calligraphic skills led him to Hallmark Cards where he was a lettering artist. After Hallmark, he worked as Director of Typographic Development at Autologic and Camex corporations, before taking on the same responsibilities at Adobe Systems. Sumner now owns and runs his own digital type foundry, The Stone Type Foundry, from Northern California.
